GUYS I NAILED THE SHIT OUT OF THE RESEARCH SYMPOSIUM THIS MORNING!  Had some awesome conversations with people about our study and the link between social media use and depressive symptoms in LGBTQIA+ teens.  REALLY REALLY glad that obligation is off my plate but I actually enjoyed the experience more than I thought I would.

Now I'm only a paper and a half away from freedom!

HAPPY FRIDAY, DREAMWIDTH!

 なるかみの, すこしとよみて,

さしくもり,
あめもふらぬか,
きみをとどめむ

[A faint clap of thunder,
Clouded skies,
Perhaps rain will come.
If so, will you stay here with me?]

なるかみの,すこしとよみて,
ふらずとも,
わはとどまらむ,
いもしとどめば

[A faint clap of thunder,
Even if rain comes or not,
I will stay here,
Together with you.]

Picked this up from Twitter: You have to pick 7 films for a marathon all-nighter, but the rules are:
  • the films must be franchise films
  • all 7 films must be from different franchises.
---
  1. Star Wars: The Force Awakens
  2. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
  3. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe
  4. The Mummy (1999)
  5. Deadpool
  6. Monster's, Inc.
  7. Star Trek (2009)
---

Not sure how tagging works RE: Dreamwidth, but anybody who sees this and wants to give it a go - go for it!

Dear Uterus:

Thanks for the heads up about the no-baby thing, but like, a text message would have worked fine.

Sincerely,
Me

I'm such an odd duck.

I get more glammed up for a weekend at home or to go hang out with a friend than I do during the work week. Because I spend so much of my time stressed out, studying and sleep-deprived, I guess I tend to go a little overboard on the two days I have to myself. Going to binge some Netflix shows with a friend this afternoon and I totally plan on looking like a disco ball of drama and ridiculousness, but that's just my beat, you know?

In other news, this semester is almost over! I'm two papers, one presentation and a grand total of three weeks away from summer!

BRING ON THE SUN.

We got a decent amount of snow last week, so I'm really, really ready for warmer weather. How about you guys? Anybody enjoying warmer temperatures? Regular exposure to Vitamin D? Actual green and/or blooming plant life? Feel free to tell me all about it so I can live vicariously through you.

Listening to the Star Wars soundtracks while you do everyday, normal shit like make a sandwich or check your email is just the wildest thing. It's like "This sandwich, clearly the most important sandwich in the galaxy, has the power to shift the balance in the Force!" or "Checking this email will take me one step closer to my destiny as the leader of the Jedi Order!"

Still struggling with figuring out how to juggle doing a 40-hour work week on top of school stuff (i.e. 2 grad classes & a 20 hr/week internship) for my next (and final) year of grad school. I knew this would be a challenge but I've made everything else work up until now - guess I figured I'd know what to do when the time came, but I'm losing confidence in myself, and that's hard.

Hopefully someone, somewhere, will be able to work around my job but it's looking less and less possible as time goes on.

Trying not to stress about it too much because there's only so much control I have over the situation, but I've been sleeping so much more lately (probably in part because I've been battling colds for like, over a month) as a mental and physical escape from all this nonsense. Gah. Not the greatest long-term coping mechanism, Meg.

I guess I'm just ready for this insanity to be over, to have my license, to be working in the field, to be the new me I've been working on for four years. Just gotta get there.

Bleh.

Just been feeling very blank lately, you know? The weather's super cold, there's no moisture in the air WHATSOEVER, I've been sick for about a week now, and hormonal and bloated and uninspired and TIRED.

And the semester hasn't even started yet!

If feelings were colors, I'd be gray today.

If I were a word, I'd be UGH.

Anybody got any pick-me-up ideas?

I'm open to suggestions.

Having a fantastic Tumblr-free day!  Just have to actually DO the research project I just got approval for before I can enjoy the rest of the holiday season, totally guilt-free.  Until then, I'm jamming out to this mashup on REPEAT.  (SERIOUSLY IT'S SO CATCHY I CAN'T STOP SEND HELP)

Hello, Dreamwidth.

You look an awful lot like Livejournal. But I guess since Tumblr's imploding and Pillowfort is still slow, you're worth a shot - especially if people find this place more fun to use and need to get in touch with me. It does feel like I've spread myself a bit thin with all these accounts everywhere (Livejournal, Tumblr (3 BLOGS!? I HAVE NO CHILL), Pillowfort, AO3), so I can't promise that I'll check this often (or really at all...we'll see), but I guess here goes nothing.

As my Mom always says:

"Let's run it up the flag pole, see who salutes."

(I don't even know, guys - she's a Navy brat. For some context.)
